The Bright School: Donation Giveaway Winner Q1 2019

We are thrilled to announce the winner of Winspire's first Donation Give-Away drawing of 2019!

Congratulations goes to Kim, Director of Advancement at The Bright School in Chattanooga. For more than 100 years, The Bright School has provided an educational foundation for generations of children in the Chattanooga area.

It's our honor to be able to donate gift cards to Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom ($1,000 total) for their use in an upcoming fundraiser.

After the drawing, we reached out to Kim to find out more about this cause and how the prize will be used to generate much-needed revenue.

Developing the whole child

Founded in 1913 by Miss Mary Bright, The Bright School has aimed to build a foundation upon which students become wise and compassionate citizens of the world. Its century of progress fosters the intellectual, artistic, physical, and moral growth of young boys and girls.

"We believe in an approach to learning that allows children to be involved and nurtured, to experiment, to be active and to ask questions," Kim says. "Our curriculum fosters a sense of responsibility, curiosity and persistence that is necessary to succeed in all areas of life."

Small classes for children in grades junior pre-kindergarten through fifth grade allow teachers to focus on every child, and our rich traditions help provide a connection that lasts a lifetime. Bright supplements its academic experience with art, music, shop (woodworking), and daily P.E. Each grade performs a play, and students sing and play instruments on stage for special events throughout the year.

The Bright community includes families of many faiths, ethnicities and cultures, and the school seeks to celebrate the diversity of the students every day.

The Pajama Party Auction

Bright School Pajama Party AuctionEach fall, the Bright School hosts The Pajama Party Auction. This fun event combines live and online events to raise funds for the school. The online event begins in October and is available on Bidding for Good.

Now in its thirteenth year, the Auction is a fundraising highlight of the school year.

Says Kim, "We have noticed a strong trend that donors favor purchasing experiences and travel over 'things.' These items often see fierce bidding, and it is not uncommon for them to sell for more than actual value."

One example: the chance to be "Head of School for the Day", one of the most coveted items in the auction! Whether banning homework or giving extra recess, children can make priceless memories with this unique auction item.

Other items include outings with teachers, front-row seats for class plays, art and other exclusives donated by alumni, galleries and companies.

"This fabulous prize ($1,000 shopping spree donated from Winspire) will most certainly be a hot item!" Kim says. "Our stylish mommies, daddies and grandparents LOVE to shop!"

Leveraging Winspire resources

Volunteering

"I have worked in development for 18 years, all at Bright School, and earned my CFRE certification 3 years ago," Kim says. "With an Advancement staff of one (me!), my biggest challenge with our auction is time management and logistics.

"I couldn’t do it without an army of committed parent volunteers who constantly amaze me with their love and dedication for our school. We literally start planning for the following year’s auction as soon as the current one ends."

She concludes, "I am a devotee of Winspire News because I can count on up-to-date information about locations, trips and trends that I know will appeal to our donor audience."

Our 8 Favorite (Free!) Tools for Nonprofit Fundraising

Every Nonprofit Marketer/Fundraiser has ran into the same problem while doing their job; a lack of resources and tools to use! I was the Marketing Manager for a Nonprofit for 7+ years and would experience this each day at work. How do I crop and edit an image without Photoshop? We can’t hire a full time designer, but we want pretty invitation flyers for our upcoming event!

Using Events to Identify and Build Relationships with Donors

Imagine you just had your annual gala supporting an incredible cause for your Nonprofit organization. You ensured every detail was perfect, from the live band to the gourmet meal you served. You created flyers, posted to social media, and even sold the most tickets you have ever sold for an annual gala. But, for some reason, you were unable to reach your fundraising goals. You leave confused, wondering why your efforts did not result in the outcome you were hoping for.
